  2. With freestyle, your butt some, and thigh muscles, and you pull with back muscles and move the shoulders.  Kick faster, you work your butt and legs more.

    Other strokes, will work slightly different areas.  Just work them harder and faster, and the muscles used will tell you what is doing what. You'll feel the action.

  6. Your quads get a major workout as well as all of your upper body. Calves and forearms fair the worst, they're just not used that much in terms of the physical strains of swimming.
