Question:

Swimming sand pool filter?

My friend recently got me a new sand filter from his dad for a low price. Since i hooked it up about a week ago it has been working great. Today i got outside to check on it and water is coming out the waste. I had the handle set on top to filter and water was still coming out the waste. No matter what i set the handle on top to it still comes straight out of the waste part of it. I have no idea why this suddenly happened but i want to get it fixed as soon as possible and for as cheap as possible so if anyone could help me out. I would GREATLY GREATLY appreciate it.

  1. The valve could be stuck. Could be the valve

is lined up wrong internally now.

You will need to remove the valve & open.

I would get the seller to remedy this, no matter how cheap it was.

  2. Some modern high-pressure sand filters have an automated back-wash system.  When the filter pressure reaches a certain level they will automatically switch the valves over and force water backwards through the system, dumping the water and the gunk that's accumulated in your filter to waste.  Check your owner's manual.  If it does not have an automated back-wash, then you have a problem!  Otherwise its normal!
