Swimming with cramp?

I've started swimming training that really oushed me to the limit of my fitness and I found that in the last session I kept getting cramp! I ate before hand but it was at least an hour before swimming. I couldn't chake it out and carried on swimming and now the leg that cramped really hurts- feels like I've strained everything and where my feet cramped hurts too. Is there anything I can do about it and how can I avoid cramp in the future?

Thanks

  1. Our coach tells us to keep swimming even if we have cramp, but i think the best thing to do is to sit out for a few lengths and stretch the muscle out and rub it. Also, try to drink more because that will stop the build up of lactic acid, which causes cramp. Keep trying to move the muscle and move the lactic acid. I hope ive helped you because i know who painful cramp can be. Good luck with your swimming training.

  2. one day i swam so hard i got out of the pool and passed out

    conclusion: swimming is dangerous

  3. To avoid cramps do pre-exercises and drink water regularly during the day to have a good hydratation of muscles... . Remember the best swimmers get drowned because of cramps since you can't ged rid of them whilst in water.

  4. To get rid of most cramps use something hot, water bottle, ect. This should ease the pain away over a few seconds, works wonders. To keep it from happening again in the future either ease yourself into the swimming, as what i can see you may have done to much to soon and damaged something. Or pre water exercises.
