Swimming without a shirt?

Ok, so I go to the pool sometimes, and people there swim without a shirt. What is it in this country, so that men only wear shorts while swimming and no shirt or t-shirt?

Yes, that's exactly what it is. Except for some, who don't like it and they wear a shirt.

Here in the USA, the general practice is for men to swim without a shirt.  It's been part of our culture for several decades now.  Having spent time in China, they have the same practice.

In the USA, if a man wears a shirt while swimming it is either to try and prevent a sunburn or because they are self-conscious about how their body looks. The reason we would think it is weird for a man to swim with a shirt is because of our general accepted practice and it does make swimming more difficult with the restrictions a wet shirt brings.  A rash guard would be easier to swim in compared to a tee shirt since they are more form fitting to the body and would not produce much drag.

In america it is just wierd to wear a shirt because if men have nothing to show there then why should they have to wear a shirt and it would be very uncomfortable to have to wear a shirt and have it all over you and wet.

hmm,  i always thought men swam with a shirt on becasue they were self conscious.  Must be different in other cultures, but in america, its pretty much "normal" to not swim with a shirt on.
