I am thinking about competitive swimming and am wondering what kind of swimwear to get. Also, how do I ask my parents to buy some? I am going to be a sophmore in high school next year.

  1. Well, if you live in a small enough town with a sporting goods store they usually sell the swim teams bathing suit. It isn't that different from regular competitive suits but some teams prefer if you wear a certain suit. It's also a good thing to have your competition suit and then a suit for practice. The practice suit will wear out quickly. Be advised though: competitive suits are generally more pricey than suits you'd buy at Target or Zellers. You should splurge for a Speedo suit if you're thinking of going competitive. When asking your parents tell them your thinking of going competitive. Another note, competitive swim teams are sometimes costly! So beware.

  2. speedo

girls think those really small things that barely cover anything are s**y

just grow some balls and ask ur parents

  3. i have been swimming competitively since i was 9 and for guys, it depends on how much skin you want exposed. for a beginner, i would go with a type of swimwear called the jammer.

length wise its a little above your knees and most guys prefer them.

there is also speedos. they usually come in two types, square leg and the typical speedo (short and looks like underwear)

if you really enjoy swimming you can even check out dragsters, they are short and squared off but usually come in cool colors and a baggier and made of mesh.

although as a beginner, i don't think you need to be worried about that right now.

if you want to know what they look like just type them in on google image search. it will give you an idea.

as for getting your parents to buy you swim gear, i would just tell them you want to try swimming and ask if they would be willing to help pay.

(if you have long hair, i would recommend swim caps as well, they take some getting use to but they make you smoother through the water and keep the hair out of your face, it also helps with minimizing the damage that the chlorine can do to your hair...

and if you want a pair of googles(highly recommended) some good brands are speedo vanquishers, they come in lots of colors and NEVER leak.)

(you can get swimsuits at pretty much any sports store, and i would try them on before ever ordering them out of magazines so you know what size you are.)

    =)
