Swin Cash, Katie Douglas, Cappie Pondexter, Rebekkah Brunson: Top WNBA players from the All-Star Game
The Eastern Conference beat the Western Conference 118-113 in the 10th WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday afternoon infront of 12,540 basketball fans at the AT&T Center. It was the third All-Star Game victory of the East in their previous four tries.
Let us review the outstanding contributions made by players of both conferences in the All-Star game:
Eastern Conference Players
Katie Douglas
Indiana Fever’s Katie Douglas was the real difference maker on the night. The four-time All-Star played a very crucial role when her team trailed by 113-111 with 1:19 to go in the game. With the clock running down, Douglas scored five of the East’s last seven points, including a go-ahead three pointer with 56.7 seconds left to put the game out of reach of the West.
The 32-year-old guard ended the game with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. The player shot 5 for 8 shooting from the field, including 3 for 6 beyond the arc.
Cappie Pondexter
Cappie Pondexter led the East with 17 points, seven assists and two steals. The New York Liberty guard hit 7 for 13 from the floor and received the largest cheer of the game, when her name was announced in WNBA's Top 15 players of all-time.
Tina Charles
Connecticut Sun centre Tina Charles punctuated 15 points for the East in her All-Star debut. The 22-year-old player also grabbed four rebounds and ended the game on 7 for 9 shooting from the floor.
Essence Carson
Essence Carson came off the bench with 13 points in more than 19 minutes of action. The player pulled also down two rebounds and knocked down three treys in as many attempts.
Renee Montgomery
Renee Montgomery racked up 12 points, hitting 4 for 9 from the field, in 14 plus minutes of action and also dished out two assists.
Western Conference Players
Swin Cash
Swin Cash recorded a double-double with game high 21 points and 12 rebounds. The brilliant performance of the Seattle Storm's forward earned her the MVP honour, which marked the second time in her career that the player has taken home the MVP award, the first being in 2009. The four time All-Star also became the league’s first All-Star MVP from a losing team.
Rebekkah Brunson
Minnesota Lynx’s forward Rebekkah Brunson totalled 20 points, nine rebounds and three steals for the West. The player pinned 9 of 13 shots from the field in more than 24 minutes of action.
Diana Taurasi
Diana Taurasi of Phoenix Mercury scored 13, dished out seven assists and grabbed three rebounds on the night.
