Swin Cash, Sue Bird, Victoria Dunlap, Matee Ajavon: Top players from 3rd July WNBA games
Seattle Storm and Washington Mystics went head-to-head on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Verizon Center. After a tight first 10 minutes, Seattle held the Mystics to just 1 for 15 from the field in the second quarter and did not trail
in the entire second half, walking away with an impressive 73-63 victory.
Storm limited Washington to just 31.9 percent shooting from the field and converted their 14 turnovers into 18 points to bounce back from a 75-70 defeat to Connecticut Sun in the previous game.
Here is a selection of some of the outstanding performers of the night:
Swin Cash
Swin Cash had a fantastic Sunday night. Cash, who has been one of the league’s top rebounder and post scorer for some time now, scored a team-high 19 points in duration of 36 minutes. The 31 year old veteran went 7 for 13 from
the field and 4 for 6 from free throw line on the night.
Cash also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, dished out two assists and blocked two shots. Cash, who is averaging 15.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game this season, posted 11 points in the second half alone.
Sue Bird
Sue Bird sealed 17 points and dished out five assists for the winners. The four-time WNBA All-Star also had three steals and shot 6 for 12 from the field including 2 for 6 from the three-point range. Bird scored five of her points
with 01:20 to go in the third quarter to stretch Storm’s lead to 57-44, heading into the final stanza.
Tanisha Wright
Tanisha Wright played one of the best games of her career. The 27-year-old went 6 for 11 from the field and 5 for 6 from free throw line and finished the game with 17 points along with five boards.
Victoria Dunlap
Mystics’ forward Victoria Dunlap entered the game with an average of 1.8 points and 1.8 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per game. However by the time, the game reached its culmination, Dunlap had pounded a team best 19 points in almost
33 minutes of action.
The 21-year-old player, who was 7-for-14 from the field and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line, also grabbed eight rebounds and three steals the losing effort. Mystics Coach Trudi Lacey was satisfied with the improvement in the Dunlap's
performance as she said; Victoria really came into her own today, so that was good to see.”
Matee Ajavon
Matee Ajavon registered 15 points along with four assists and two boards for the Mystics. She scored 12 of her points in second half and also pinned 4 of 5 free throws.
Nicky Anosike
Nicky Anosike recorded the only double-double of the night with 11 points and a game high ten rebounds. The player also had three steals and two assists in the loss.
