Swin Cash leads Seattle Storm to a 73-63 victory over Washington Mystics – WNBA Recap
On Sunday night, Swin Cash scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to power the Seattle Storm to a 73-63 win over Washington Mystics at Verizon Center. The win marked the first time Seattle have won in Washington since 2006
and also propelled them to third position in the Western Conference.
On the night, Seattle finally found their offense without imposing their leading scorer and rebounder Lauren Jackson and bounced back from their previous 75-70 defeat to Connecticut Sun on Friday night.
Cash praised the team effort of her team after the game and said, "We are a veteran team with a core group of players that were here last year when we won the championship." "We understand what it takes to get it done."
Storm guard Tanisha Wright was also productive in the game, recording 17 points on 6 for 11 from the field and 5 for 6 from the free throw line. Sue Bird also added 17 points, shooting 6 for 12 from the floor, and dished out five
assists in the victory.
Victoria Dunlap had 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals to lead the Mystics. Matee Ajavon posted 15 points and four assists while Marissa Coleman ended with 10 points and six rebounds for Washington, who lost five of their
previous six games of the season. Mystic’s forward centre Nicky Anosike registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The short-handed Mystics played without their leading scorer Crystal Langhorne, who missed her missed the first game of her four-year Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) career because of back pain. Mystics guard Alana
Beard and forward Monique Currie were already sidelined with a foot and knee injury respectively.
A visibly frustrated Anosike said after the game, "I have never in my life have had to deal with so many injuries in such a short period of time." "It's hard, but what can we do? We cannot sit around and feel sorry for ourselves.
The other teams don't care."
Storm recorded a 47.4 percentage from the field and made 30.8 from the three point range. On the other hand, the Mystics made just 31.9 percent from the floor and 26.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Washington scored the opening four points of the first quarter and held a 17-15 lead with one minute to go in the quarter. However, Smith responded with a free throw and Little drove to rim to put Seattle ahead by one-point, 18-17,
at the end of the opening period.
Storm outscored the Mystics 17-9 in the second quarter, taking a 35-26 advantage into the locker room.  Seattle rushed to a 41-32 lead early in the third quarter and never trailed again.
