Swin Cash sizzles as Seattle Storm knock out Indiana Fever 68-54 – WNBA Recap
Swin Cash registered a game-high 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists as the defending WNBA champions Seattle Storm shook off a 81-74 defeat against Minnesota Lynx a night before, to top the Indiana Fever
68-54 at Key Arena on Friday.
Sue Bird also scored 12 points and four assists for the winners while LeCoe Willingham came off the bench with a season-high 10 points and seven rebounds.
Katie Douglas was the only Indiana player to reach the double-figures. She finished with 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Tamika Catchings, who is averaging 12.6 points and 7.6 per game in this season, was kept to eight points only on 4-of-11 shooting. It was the second time in a row that the 31-year-old could not reach the double-figures, after adding
double figures for the last 24 games. However, the forward player grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for Fever.
It was another poor shooting performance by Indiana as they finished the night on 16-of-55 from the field. Indiana coach Lin Dunn admitted poor shooting player vital role in their defeat and said, "We missed some shots we should
have hit, and didn't do a good job on the boards -- that was a real key thing for us."
Storm opened the first quarter with a 14-6 run. Atlanta bounced back a bit though and the first quarter ended at 15-10. Seattle maintained their momentum in the second quarter and outscored Indiana 22-9 to push their lead to 37-19
at halftime.
Leading by 18 points after first half, Storm continued to mount an offensive onslaught and widened their advantage to 21 points in the first two minutes of the third quarter. Indiana reduced the deficit to 15 points in the next
three minutes or so, but Seattle again dominated the rest of the period and held a 58-33 lead, heading into the fourth.
Indiana settled down in the fourth quarter and outscored the Fever 21-10. However, their scoring was done in garbage time as the game was virtually over after three quarters.
Cash said after the game, "That was the biggest thing tonight was making sure our effort was there and sending a message," "We saw what happened in the Minnesota game, but we're going to get better as a team, and that was a great
step in the right direction."
