Swindon A2 races recap.
Swindon saw two A2 races Monday including the www.pontins.com Stakes and the Pontins Outstanding Value For Money Stakes. The A3 and A4 www.pontins.com Stakes were held at Swindon today as well.
In the A2 Pontins Stakes a good start wasn’t enough for 5-2 race favourite, Headford Lady, to pass Penrhiw Ace who won the race in a time of 29.19. Strictly Baileys was just a little slower out of the traps than Ace and Lady, and paid for it in the end finishing third by a neck. Unknown Biffo was the slowest from the traps, but managed to take fourth by ½ a length over Rockview Billy. Dizzy Miss Lizzy stumbled on the second turn and finished last.
In the A3 Pontins Stakes Falkners Dream got off to a good start, led around the first bend, lost the lead to Nickies Illusion at the second bend, but had a strong finish to win the race by a 1/2 length over Crinkill King. Illusion’s lead was just that as she dropped all the way back to third place. Silkmore Shadow had a slow start and finished in fourth place, 2 ¼ lengths behind Illusion. The battle for fifth was won by Cefn Bluebird who beat Joeflashoflight by just a shoulder.
The other A2 race, the Outstanding Value For Money Stakes, was won by Puerto Bound, who finished with an impressive time of 29.29 over 480m. Bound finished one length ahead of Villamartin Nogo, who finished just a ½ length ahead of one of the race’s joint favourites, Magadon. Magadon was quick from the traps but unable to keep the early lead. Other race favourite, Petite Snowei finished in dead last after moving to the outside and checking after the third bend.  Tipp General took fourth and Cefn Rachel fifth.
Another notable A3 race saw joint favourites, Hurricane Gold and Sounds Classic, finish one and two in the Pontins Family Entertainment Holiday Stakes. Gold started from the fifth trap and ran wide, but took the lead early and kept it. Classic had little trouble keeping ahead of the rest of the pack to take second place. Leamy Torres had a tougher time taking third from In The Bank, but ended up ½ length ahead of Bank. Odell Inca took fifth while Ericks Voyager trailed everyone finishing 3 ¼ lengths back of Inca.
Prime Target won the A4 Pontins Stakes by 1 ¼ lengths over Kinda Classic. Nice One Romal took third after a slow start while Da Bandit lost ground on the first bend and finished in fourth. Whichford Lark took fifth, and Corrin Lisa wasted a trap one position with a poor start to finish last.
