Swing Alone all set to cause upset in Coral Backing Macmillan Cancer Support Stakes (Handicap) at York
Swing Alone had no ideal scenario last twice, but with a workable mark and hood, he is in a great position to spring up a surprise in Coral Backing Macmillan Cancer Support Stakes (Handicap), being hosted by York on Saturday, October 13, 2012.
The 3-year-old showed plenty of class in July, when missing the gold only by a whisker at Newmarket. The Invesco Perpetual Handicap saw him making wonderful progress after a lazy start. He ran well to lead a furlong before the wire, but was surpassed by
Serene Oasis in the dying moments. As a result, he finished second by a head’s distance.
On his last two starts, the g*y Kelleway-trained could not make an impression, but none of his defeats was disgraceful. After finishing fourth at Newmarket, the son of Celtic Swing secured the same spot at Epsom last time.
In the Bet totequadpot Text Tote To 89660 Handicap, he missed the podium only by a nose. Under Neil Callan, he took keen hold early on, but held up in the last trio thereafter.
He was outpaced a couple of furlongs before the line, and stayed on to go fifth inside the final furlong. The 10-1 chance quickly switched right, and stayed on strongly to press for the third, but unfortunately ended up fourth.
He made plenty of good effort last time out. The M. Sinanan-bred is likely to show more improvement today. He is due to face eight opponents in today’s class 2 contest.
On York heavy one mile and 208 yards, the contestants will be in pursuit of a handsome prize worth £12,938. The affair will be kicked off at 14:35 GMT.
Out of others, Lahaag has the most attractive profile. The John Gosden-trained is reappearing just 10 days after his excellent win at Nottingham. On his return from a four-month layoff, the 3-year-old did a marvellous job to capture the first rank by three
quarters of a length in the Roseland Business Park Handicap.
A quick reappearance should not be a concern, and we consider Lahaag as the main danger to Swing Alone. Good luck to all the contenders.
