Charlie Wingnut, the 5-year-old son of Westerner, out of Back To Stay, is the leading contender for this race.
With the help of his trainer, Nicky Henderson, he has been going through constant work-outs and strenuous exercises. This will be his first race in 2012.
He finished in 2nd place, on 9th April, 2011, in the Bet On The Masters At Totesport.Com Standard N.H Flat Race, at Bangor-on-dee.
He finished in 5th place in his last race, in the Victorchandler.com “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle, held at Doncaster, on 9th December, 2011.
Valdan, owned by E. Evans, is an 8-year-old gelding trained by David Evans. His performance has improved remarkably in his last race.
On 31st January, 2012, he competed at Southwell, in the Bet At Blue Square Amateur Riders’ Handicap where he finished in 11th place.
The next race showed his improved form and capability as he finished in 4th place, on 15th February, 2012, in the Crowhurst Handicap, held at Lingfield.
Cool Cascade, the 6-year-old daughter of Alderbrook, out of Miss Pout, competed on 9th January, 2012, after she was pulled up from a race during an injury.
In her seasonal debut, she finished in 7th place, in the European Breeders’ Fund Mares’ “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle, held at Taunton.

Her next first place finish was on 31st December, 2011, in the William Hill – Home Of Betting Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race, at Warwick. This time she defeated Foundation Man.
Based on past performances of the runners, it can be assumed that Charlie Wingnut will secure the first place finish. Compared to the other runners, his odds of winning are slightly higher.
Swing Bowler is also a strong contender, who has already won both of her bumpers. She may prove to be a hindrance in Charlie Wingnut’s way.
The contenders for second place are Valdan and Cool Cascade.
The runners who will be competing for third place are Musnad, Captain Brown and
Sentosa.
