Swiss International 2012: Kirsty Gilmour outshines Milicent Wiranto to wrap up Women’s Singles title
Scotland’s in-form shuttler Kirsty Gilmour showed a wonderful performance in the arena and won the Women’s Singles title after defeating Indonesia’s Milicent Wiranto in the final encounter of the Swiss International 2012 on Sunday, October 21, in Switzerland.
The fifth seeded Kirsty, who remained impressive in all of her matches in the tournament, continued her inspiring run in the tournament and overpowered her un-seeded opponent but not before employing everything she had in her possession.
Scottish shuttler was in good form on court but she had to play at her best against her in-form opponent and she managed to win this match in straight games with a tight score on the board.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Indonesian impressed the local crowd with her spirited play but she failed to dominate the rallies in the concluding phase and eventually lost the match to her higher ranked Scottish rival with a respectable score.
In the first game, Kirsty played with excellent control in her strokes and managed to occupy the driving seat at the initial rallies.
The incredible variations in Kirsty’s strokes assisted her to maintain an upper hand over her Indonesian challenger on court.
Until the mid-game break, the impressive Kirsty was leading the game with a wonderful difference of 11-5 on score board.
The aggressive Kirsty remained comfortable in the arena after the one-minute interval but she eventually lost her focus which helped her rival to catch up the deficit by reaching at 15-15.
However, the higher ranked Kirsty managed to control the pace in the ending points and won the set with a dramatic 24-22 score on the board.
In the second game, Milicent played with aggression and pushed her Scottish rival on back foot. She did not lose her focus at any stage and the score remained close until the end of opening half.
After the break, Kirsty increased her speed in all areas of the court and ultimately took over the control of rallies.
Scottish player continued her power play in the concluding half and easily wrapped up the set by a reasonable margin of 21-17.
Kirsty emerged as the crown winner as she ended up the final battle in straight games with a tight 24-22 and 21-17 score on the board.
