Swiss Junior Int 2012: Lole Courtois slays Verlaine Faulmann to earn Women’s Singles U17 title
France’s emerging shuttler Lole Courtois delivered a phenomenal performance on court and earned glory by winning the Women’s Singles U17 title after slaying her higher ranked team-mate Verlaine Faulmann in the final battle at Swiss Junior Int 2012 in Switzerland,
on Sunday, September 30.
The fifth seeded Courtois, who has been playing impressive badminton for the last few months, continued putting up stunning show in the final contest and overpowered Verlaine in a spectacular manner.
Courtois was one step above her rival on court as she played dominating badminton and maintained pressure on Verlaine all the way to wind up the contest in straight sets with a wonderful margin by taking just 28 minutes.
On the other hand, the second seeded Verlaine was not at her best as she could not put up strong resistance and had no answer to the power play of her lower ranked team-mate. She lost the contest without snatching any set.
In the first set, Courtois played with precision from opening points and did not let her opponent to take lead at any stage.
Both shuttlers were toe-to-toe until the ending points of opening half when Courtois was just ahead on score board at 11-9.
However, the in-form Courtois showed aggression after the break and managed to stretch her lead without showing any mercy to Verlaine.
Courtois remained on track while playing positive badminton all the way to secure the first set with a one-sided margin of 21-12.
In the second set, Courtois was on a different level as she played attacking badminton while remaining positive and set up a stunning lead on score board by reaching at 11-4 until the end of first half.
After the one-minute break, Verlaine changed her tactics at net and played positive game which helped her to narrow the gap on score board.
Nevertheless, it was too late as Courtois did not let Verlaine to make the score levelled as she played well in the end and took the set with a 21-19 score on the board.
Courtois won the title in a dominating manner by finishing off the final match with a convincing margin of 21-12 and 21-19.
