Swiss Open 2013: Wang Shixian trounces Intanon Ratchanok to end her title drought
China’s experienced player Wang Shixian finally ended her prolonged title drought as she claimed Women’s Singles title after defeating Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon in the final battle of Swiss Open 2013 on Sunday, March 17, in Switzerland.
The fourth seeded Shixian, who played dominating badminton throughout the championship, continued putting up a stunning show and outplayed the fifth seeded Ratchanok in just 36 minutes in a completely commanding fashion.
The higher ranked Chinese player was in tremendous form as she played with staggering precision and managed to outplay her Thai challenger in straight sets with a smashing 21-16 and 21-12 score on the board.
Fifth seeded Ratchanok, on the contrary, gave a good fight in the starting set but failed to push her Chinese rival on the back foot at any stage in the entire title match and eventually lost it without winning any set.
In the first game of this final encounter, Shixian showed amazing aggression on the court from the opening points by playing with aggression and built up huge pressure on her Thai opponent.
The in-form Chinese shuttler was quite smooth in taking the bird early and she did not encounter any trouble in hitting her shots in targeted areas.
Shixian did not show any sign of confusion at any stage as she was in complete control of rallies until the one-minute interval where she was ahead on the board.
The aggressive Shixian remained confident on court after the one-minute break as she played with the same approach. She was consistent in executing powerful shots in targeted areas and grabbed the opening game with a convincing total of 21-16.
In the second game, Shixian played with stunning speed without sparing any opportunity for Ratchanok to find a good rhythm.
Shixian displayed her unmatched craft in the arena by picking up the bird early from all areas and kept her domination over her Thai challenger who remained struggling to match the pace of rallies.
Ratchanok could not show resistance in the second game of this contest as her rival Shixian played flawless badminton and took the set with a stunning 21-12 difference on the board.
