China’s Chen Jin lived up to expectations as he secured his berth in Men’s Singles quarter-final of the Swiss Open GP Gold 2012, which is in progress at Basel, Switzerland.
Jin, who was fourth seed main draw of the tournament, showed no mercy to Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in the round-of-16 fight and won it in an impressive fashion on Thursday, March 15.
The World Number Five Jin, who has been struggling hard to win a major tournament for the last six months, played elevated badminton and easily won against Jorgensen who is ranked at number 13 in Men’s Singles world standings.
The Chinese ended the match in straight sets by taking 53 minutes in the court.
In the pre-quarter-final contest, both men played to their maximum potential and remained close until the break. No one could claim a commanding position in the first half of opening set.
Nevertheless, Jin found a wonderful flow after the break and started to push his Danish rival in all areas of the court. He was fully focused and continued his elevated play in the whole concluding half.
On the other hand, Jorgensen completely lost his focus as his strokes went wide of the court or into the net. He committed many unforced errors and remained struggling in the match.
However, Jin was positive in the court and took the opening game with an impressive 21-13 score on the board.
In the second game, Jorgensen was better this time as he played with precision and remained in control.
He did not miss any chance to earn points in the opening half and remained close to his higher ranked opponent until the break.
Both shuttlers progressed closely in second game until the score reached at 16-16 when Jin showed his class by taking over the control of rallies.
He became quicker in all areas and remained successful in winning the set with a decent score of 21-17.
Jin won this round-of-16 battle in straight games with a convincing 21-13 and 21-17 score on the board.
In the quarter-final clash, Jin will play against Malaysia’s Daren Liew who is in smashing form at the moment.
