Swiss Open GP Gold 2012: Three cheers for Malaysian male and female doubles shuttlers
It was a day of triple joy for Malaysia as their three doubles teams marched into the quarter-finals of Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold on March 15, 2012.
The Malaysian doubles experts Eei h*i Chin-Pei Tty Wong, Goh V Shem-Teo Kok Siang and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying excelled in the Women’s doubles, Men’s doubles and Mixed doubles events respectively.
The splendid victory saga was started by Women’s doubles pair Eei h*i Chin-Pei Tty Wong who secured their berth in round of eight by beating Thai girls Duanganong-Kunchala with an impressive margin of 21-10, 10-21 and 23-21.
They will be looking to surpass the Danish ladies Christinna Pedersen-Kamilla Rytter in the quarter-final of the Women’s doubles event.
Meanwhile, the mixed doubles pair Peng Soon-Liu Ying kept the ball rolling by sealing a straight-set victory over Peter Kaesbauer-Johanna Goliszewski of Germany.
They thrashed their challengers with decisive figures of 21-16 and 24-22 to set up a quarter-final tussle with the top seeded Indonesian couple Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir.
The duo will have to stretch their arms and legs to full if they want to overcome Tontowi-Liliyana who are ruling the courts for last few weeks after sealing the crown in All-England Open.
The last chapter of the victory saga was even more impressive when Men’s doubles experts V Shem-Kok Siang delivered a stunner against the top seeded pair Chai Biao-Guo Zhendong of China.
The newly formed couple stamped their rivals with a straight set win. The Chinese had to bow down when score board flashed the final figures 21-17 and 21-18 in Malaysian’s favour.
The partnership of V Shem-Kok Siang will now strive to forge a beneficial chemistry against the Indonesian pair Alvent Yulianto-Hendra Aprida in the quarter-finals of the event.
However, the excellence did not belong to the doubles contenders only as the Men’s singles shuttler Daren Liew also took country into the quarter-finals with his superlative performance against Portuguese rival Pedro Martins.
Malaysia has their stake in four events of the Swiss Open and their shuttlers will resume the marathon in quarter-finals on March 16, 2012.
