Swiss Open GP Gold: Nguyen Tien Minh sends Parupalli Kashyap packing in Men’s Singles second round
Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh put up a wonderful performance when he thrashed India’s Parupalli Kashyap in Men’s Singles second round of Swiss Open GP Gold 2012 on Wednesday, March 14, at Basel, Switzerland.
The World Number 11 Tien Minh, who is the seventh seed in Men’s Singles draw of the event, claimed his elevated position as he hammered Kashyap who has been positioned at number 30 in the world.
The higher ranked Tien Minh put up fabulous show by playing to his maximum potential and overpowered his Indian rival in straight games by working for just 38 minutes in the court.
In the opening set, Tien Minh started his campaign in a perfect way as he did not face any considerable trouble from his Indian rival and established a remarkable lead of 11-4 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Kashyap increased his speed but could not dictate the pace of rallies as his higher ranked opponent was quicker in taking the bird from all areas.
Tien Minh was focused in the game as he did not commit any mistake and also kept the tempo of rallies quite fast.
He controlled the bird with a wonderful craft and managed to bag the first game with a tremendous 21-13 score on the board.
In the second set, Tien Minh again showed his class by playing to his maximum potential and did not let his opponent to match the pace of rallies.
On the other hand, Kashyap could not live up to expectations as he remained miles behind his opponent on the score board. Until the 60-second break, he was far behind at 3-11.
After the one-minute interval, the Indian lifted up his level of play and started to reduce the deficit while remaining positive in the court.
Kashyap played elevated game in the whole concluding half and managed to level the score by reaching at 18-18.
However, Tien Minh controlled the affairs at this crucial stage and scored three consecutive points to end the battle with a decent margin of 21-18.
Tien Minh emerged as victorious of this Men’s Singles second-round contest with a 21-13 and 21-18 score on the board.
