Swiss Open GP Gold: Wang Yihan struggles against Adrianti Firdasari in Women’s Singles first round
China’s top shuttler Wang Yihan was not in good shape in her Women’s Singles first round contest as she struggled really hard in beating Indonesia’s Adrianti Firdasari at Swiss Open GP Gold 2012 in Switzerland, on Wednesday, March 14.
Yihan, who is currently World Number One and also the top seed in Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, could not find a perfect start as she had to dig deep into her arsenal to get rid of spirited Firdasari in a three-set clash.
The top seed consumed 57 minutes in the court and managed to overpower her Indonesian rival in thrilling rubber games.
On the other hand, Firdasari played wonderful badminton but could not dominate the pace of rallies in the ending points of final game and lost the match with a decent margin.
The first game was entertaining when both females showed a spirited play and remained close. Until the break, Firdasari managed a three-point lead of 11-8 on the board.
After the break, Firdasari remained ahead in the whole concluding part until 19-17. Yihan played aggressive badminton at this stage and levelled the score but could not finish it as Firdasari scored the ending points. The Chinese lost the game with a 19-21
score on the board.
In the second game, Firdasari again entertained the crowd with her elevated play as she again remained dominant in the opening half and took a small lead of 11-9 until the break.
After the interval, Firdasari was ahead at 14-10 when Yihan started to play different badminton as she executed flat strokes to control the pace of rallies.
Yihan found her flow and levelled the score at 14-14 and also remained on track in the whole set. She won this game with a comfortable margin of 21-15.
In the deciding set, Firdasari was again the first to take an early lead by reaching 9-5 but failed to maintain it as his Chinese rival played well and levelled the score. Until the break, both ladies were close on the score board.
After the break, they remained equal until 14-14 when Yihan took over the control and dominated the pace. She managed to end the final set with a 21-16 score on the board.
