Swiss Open GP Gold: Wisnu Haryo Putro overpowers Christian Boesiger in Men’s Singles first round
Italy’s emerging player Wisnu Haryo Putro showed an elevated performance as he defeated Christian Boesiger of Switzerland in Men’s Singles first round at 2012 Swiss Open GP Gold at Basel, Switzerland, on Tuesday, March 13.
The un-seeded Wisnu put up tremendous show of aggressive badminton and gave a severe lesson to his local opponent who was also having the support of home fans.
The Italian played remarkable badminton and took 43 minutes to chuck out Boesiger in a thrilling battle that ended in three games.
In the opening set, Boesiger lived up to expectations as he entertained his home fans by playing flawless badminton and remained in complete control. He created pressure on his rival and maintained it with his wonderful craft.
Until the end of opening half, the Swiss was in commanding position in the game and he established an 11-4 lead until the break.
After the interval, Wisnu increased his speed and tried to take the bird early but he failed to reduce the difference as his opponent was not committing any mistake.
The Italian could not put up good show in the opening set and lost it with a huge difference of 10-21.
It was a different story in the second game when Wisnu played flawless badminton and remained in commanding position. He dictated the pace of rallies in all areas of the court and remained ahead at 11-5 until the break.
After the interval, Boesiger increased his speed but failed to stop the progressive run of his rival who did not drop his speed at any stage.
Wisnu progressed without facing any considerable resistance in the second game and bagged it with a 21-15 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Boesiger took a wonderful lead of 9-2 in the opening stage. However, he failed to maintain it as his rival scored seven points in a row and levelled the score at 9-9. Until the break, both men were close on the score board.
After the interval, the score remained close until 16-16 when Wisnu showed his brilliance and scored the ending points to bag the set with a margin of 21-17.
Wisnu won this first-round encounter in three games with a 10-21, 21-15 and 21-17 score on the board.
