Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2012: Jan O Jorgensen passes a severe test in Men’s Singles first round
Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen passed a severe test in Men’s Singles first round when he narrowly overpowered Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in rubber games in Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on Tuesday, March 13, in Switzerland.
Jorgensen, who is currently World Number 13, had to employ all of his skills to overpower his gritty opponent Tanongsak and won the encounter in rubber games by taking 42 minutes.
Tanongsak played tremendous badminton against his higher ranked Danish opponent but failed to continue his elevated run in the deciding set lost the fight.
The opening game was absolutely thrilling when both shuttlers showed remarkable performance while remaining close on the score board.
The higher ranked Jorgensen tried to dictate the pace but failed to create gaps in his rival’s court and could not take a reasonable lead.
On the other hand, Tanongsak played at his maximum speed and did not let his rival to dominate the game. Until the break, both shuttlers were close on the board.
They continued putting up wonderful show of aggressive play after the break and entertained the crowd while playing at the same speed.
However, Jorgensen managed a 20-18 lead but failed to finish the game as he made a few unforced errors and lost the set with a margin of 20-22.
Stung with the loss of first game, Jorgensen bounced back in the second set and played aggressive badminton. He kept the pace of rallies at maximum level and set up a striking lead of 11-5 in the opening half.
After the break, Thai shuttler tried to control the pace of rallies but failed as his Danish opponent was playing on a different level. Jorgensen bagged the second set with a completely one-sided score of 21-8.
In the decider, both men were equal on the score board until 5-5 when Jorgensen occupied the driving seat and started to build lead.
Until the end of first half, the Danish was in good position as he established an 11-6 lead.
After the break, Jorgensen continued his striking run in the game as he did not drop his speed at any stage and bagged the deciding set with a killing margin of 21-9.
The Danish won his first contest in the event with a 20-22, 21-8 and 21-9 score on the board.
