Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold: Jing Yi Tee thrashes Kaori Imabeppu in Women’s Singles qualifying round
Malaysia’s talented shuttler Jing Yi Tee started her campaign in an impressive way as she defeated Japan’s Kaori Imabeppu in Women’s Singles qualifying round of 2012 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in Switzerland, on Tuesday, March 13.
The World Number 48 Jing Yi, who has been struggling hard to make her presence felt in the world for the last couple of years, showed elevated performance in the qualifying round of Swiss Open and thrashed Imabeppu, who has been placed at number 47 in the
world.
Both ladies started the first game in a composed manner as they did not make any mistake in the opening rallies and remained close on the score board.
They entertained the local crowd with their fast and positive play as they were fully focused in the game.
The Malaysian was impressive in her shot selection while her rival was also playing at the same level. Until the one-minute break, both shuttlers were close on the board.
After the break, Jing Yi played better badminton and took a good lead of 16-12 but failed to maintain it as her rival played aggressive game and levelled the score by reaching at 17-17.
At this crucial stage in the first set, both ladies played positive and safe game. The score was 20-20 when Jing Yi became quicker in all areas and managed to take the set with a tight score of 22-20.
However, it was a completely different situation in the second set when Jing Yi controlled the pace from the opening points. She played with precision this time and did not let her opponent to level the score at any stage in the opening half.
Until the one-minute interval in the second game, the Malaysian was miles ahead of her higher ranked opponent at 11-4.
After the one-minute break, Jing Yi continued her impressive play without facing any interruption and remained on track. She was fully focused in the game and bagged it with a stunning margin of 21-11.
Jing Yi clinched victory in this straight-set qualifying-round fight with a 22-20 and 21-11 score on the board.
