Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold: Shon Wan Ho tames Stilian Makarski to secure a quarter-final berth
Korea’s young player Sho Wan Ho secured his berth in Men’s Singles quarter-final after defeating Bulgaria’s Stilian Makarski in the round-of-16 at Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on Thursday, March 15, in Switzerland.
The World Number 18 Wan Ho, who is 13th seed in Men’s Singles draw of the championship, showed a remarkable improvement in his play when he tamed his lower ranked Bulgarian rival without facing any trouble.
Wan Ho was quite comfortable in the court as he played with precision in the whole contest and bagged it in straight sets by taking just 27 minutes.
On the other hand, Stilian played well in the starting points of first set but could not maintain his positive run as his higher ranked rival became quicker. He lost the match without taking any game and crashed out from the event.
In the first set, Stilian surprised Wan Ho with his aggressive play as he remained in complete control of rallies and also took a reasonable lead of 9-6.
However, Wan Ho accelerated his speed and levelled the score without wasting any time. He was ahead of his Bulgarian rival until the end of opening half by reaching 11-9.
After the break, Stilian tried to cope up with the speed of his Korea challenger but failed as Wan Ho was playing on a different level.
The Korean was quicker in taking the bird from all areas and bagged the set in a tremendous fashion with an impressive 21-11 score on the board.
In the second set, Wan Ho got a commanding position from the opening rallies and did not let Stilian to level the score at any stage.
Until the break in the second game, Wan Ho was moving far ahead on the score board by reaching at 11-4.
After the break, Stilian employed every skill he had in his possession but failed to stop the aggressive run of his opponent who was quite composed in the court.
Wan Ho remained in complete control throughout the set and ended it with an incredible margin of 21-11.
The Korean won this straight-set battle in just 27 minutes by a 21-11 and 21-11 score on the board.
