Swiss Spirit lives up the hype as he succeeds in the Bathwick Tyres Carnarvon Stakes
Swiss Spirit proved his worth and justified his status as a favourite, as he emerged victorious from the Bathwick Tyres Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury on 18th May, 2012, where he was sent as the 7 to 4 choice.
Teamed with rider Mickael Barzalona, the three-year-old picked his pace in the later stages of the race, where he was in contention with the Clive Cox trained, Lethal Force.
The exciting race ended well for Swiss Spirit, as he broke through the wire first, a neck’s length ahead of, Lethal Force.
The third place was secured by, Samminder, who finished a neck adrift of Lethal Force.
The David Elsworth trained made a comeback in this race and overcame the short distance effectively.
The bay colt wasn’t this fortunate in the £150,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Sprint at Newmarket - which took place on 18th April, 2012. Under jockey William Buick, he missed the victory by half-length to Valbchek.
Trevor Harris, who represents the owners Lordship Stud, told the media that:
"The jockey said he idled a bit when he hit the front and thought he'd done enough, so he is probably value for a little further than the winning margin.
"The jockey also said that he might be a better horse over seven furlongs, which brings the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot into play as a possibility. He is still maturing and I think good ground is ideal for him."
The track at Newbury also proved to be lucky for, Resplendent Light, who notched an incredible victory for trainer Bernard Llewellyn, as he finished a neck before the Tom Keddy trained, Cairanne, in the Events Bar Management Handicap at Newbury on
18th May, 2012.
The winning trainer emphasised on the fact that the seven-year-old gelding is in good form and that his victory today was “marvellous.”
This was the first victory for the son of Fantastic Light, out of mare Bright Halo, since 15th August, 2011, where he competed in the Floridita London Selling Stakes at Windsor and narrowly defeated, Into The Wind by a near
negligible margin of a nose.
