Swiss duo of Heuscher, Bellaguarda wins consolation match of ‘The Beach’ – Volleyball news
The city of Aalsmeer in Netherlands recently saw the final day of ‘The Beach’ championship take place. The tournament was the second edition of the CEV indoor Satellite. The consolation match of the championship took place between the Swiss duo of Patrick
Heuscher and Jefferson Bellaguarda as well as the Dutch players, Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen.
The consolation match was not the only one which took place but the final of the championship was also contested. The two pairs who were able to compete for the title were Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil of the home side as well as Michal Kadziola and
Jakub Szalankiewicz of Poland.
The final match of the competition did not take long to reach its close as the home players were able to win the match in a sweep.
On the other hand, the consolation match took on thrilling tones as both the duos of Heuscher/Bellaguarda and Brouwer/Meeuwsen fought on for three exciting frames.
However, the team that was able to end up with the third position after a tough struggle was that of the Swiss players Heuscher and Bellaguarda. By the time that the Swiss had started celebrating their win and the Dutch were moving out of the court dejectedly,
the scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 18-21, 21-16 and 15-13.
The first set of the match saw the home team come out start from the beginning of the frame as they took the lead and left the Swiss trailing behind. The Dutch had the advantage of playing in their home ground while the Swiss took some time adjusting on
their opponent’s turf that cost them the first set at 18-21.
However, the loss of the opening frame enabled the Swiss to step up their game in the second set that presented a tough challenge for the Dutch squad. As a Result, the Swiss were able to make the match reach a tie by winning the second set. The third and
final set of the competition saw both the sides come out strong but the team that was able to be the better was Swiss.
