Swiss team ready to kick off third leg of the tournament at home – Volleyball News

Women’s national volleyball team of Switzerland is currently playing at the 2012 CEV European Volleyball League.
After covering the two flights of the league round, Swiss ladies remained winless in the competition. They started out the tournament in Pool B alongside France, Turkey, and Bulgaria. The first-week matches took place in Varna, Bulgaria from June 8-10.
The ladies around Swiss Head Coach Svetlana Ilic appeared in a total of three matches during first week and failed to break the ice. In the first match, they had a tough challenge to cope with the power of hosts. Bulgarian team used the competitive edge
of playing at home and launched full authority on visitors. The hosts sent Switzerland to a 0-3 loss in the opening affair.
In the second match, Swiss ladies went against Turkey. It proved to be another unsuccessful attempt for Ilic’s squad. Turk counterparts displayed better action on net and settled for 3-0 victory.  Back-to-back losses heavily influenced Switzerland’s performance
in third match against France.  Swiss team played comparatively better and managed to take one set in the match. Nonetheless, French team claimed three sets and settled for 3-1 victory.
The second week of the league round did not bring a better luck for Switzerland either. The team headed to Turkey for second leg matches and ended up with 0-3 record. Switzerland dropped all three matches in the same fashion and received straight-set defeats.
Following the loss of six matches in the first two weeks of the competition, Switzerland has a better opportunity to shake off the bad impression in third week as the team will be playing at home.
Swiss city Fribourg is set to host the third-week matches from June 22-24. Now the Swiss ladies will have the support of local fans, which is believed to enhance their performance. The head coach and team players are resolved to make a difference in third
week and to delight the home audience.
“We all would love to move quickly up and closer to Europe’s elite but these teams are still out of reach for us. My players have showed great fighting spirit and the desire to improve but they still lack the necessary skills. Additionally, we shall figure
out what we can really do – starting from our physical features – to put our opponents under pressure when it comes to the next matches”, said Svetlana Ilic.
Now the world has to wait and see if Swiss team really makes a comeback in tournament.
