Swiss women defeat Wales 2-1 in EuroHockey Nations Championship II in Poland
The Swiss national Women’s hockey team defeated the Welsh outfit by 2-1 in their final Pool C match in the EuroHockey Nations Championship II played at University of Physical Education, Ul Krolowej Jadwigi in Poznan, Poland on Sunday, August 14.
The Swiss ladies dominated the entire course of action, particularly the first half showing good control of the ball and excellent stick work with splendid dribbling skills as they scored a single strike in the first thirty five minutes while their opponents
remained goalless in that period of time.
Whereas the second phase of the game was somewhat balanced as both the teams ticked the scoreboard for a single time in the second half but it was Switzerland in the end who claimed the well deserved victory. The Swiss ladies remained more clinical in attack
as well as in defence as compared to their opponents and their well disciplined play led them to victory.
The Swiss athletes started the first half with a positive aggressive strategy and showed a number of good moves early in the first thirty five minutes where they tackled their opposition very well while defending their goalpost. However, the Swiss ladies
opened their account for the first time in the match ten minutes into the first half when Karin Bugmann scored a beautiful field goal in the 10th minute and put her team ahead of their rivals by a solo strike just at the initial stages of the match.
In the remaining time the Swiss Women also put some great efforts to double their lead but they remained unsuccessful in doing so as because their opponents, the Welsh Women were quite effective in their defence and did not allow the Swiss ladies to do any
further damage. On the other side the Welsh women also created their chances but they remained goalless in the first half which ended at 1-0 to Switzerland.
In the second half both the teams had to struggle in finding their way to the oppositions net but this time the Welsh Women seemed in action midway in the second half when they levelled the score in the 52nd minute, thanks to Sophie Robinson who
scored a wonderful field goal with an individual effort. But the Swiss Women continued their efforts and tried very hard to bring the results into their favour.
They eventually succeeded in the 56th minute when Dayana Pedraita scored the deciding goal of the match, a wonderful field goal that lasted until the match finished. The Swiss Women put in a good performance as they managed to take the victory
against the Welsh Women 2-1.
