im a starting freshman football next week and was wondering if im a good size to be LB or if i should just stay at DE.

weight- 190lbs

height- 5'11"

bench- 125lbs

squat- 250lbs

40 time- 6.0(average for my size on my team is +6.5 and the RB and WR and stuff get between 5.2 - 5.6)

I was thinking middle linebacker btw. i dont think i could keep up with the RB if i was outside LB

thanks!

  1. DE normally handles containment to force the play inside....LB relies on speed, size and mindset.  Both require excellent ability and are probably interchangable.  A more aggresive player would play LB. Your height would help in both positions. Flat out speed is important at LB but more important is angle pursuit and a good football sense to find/see the ball.  Either position u choose, play hard and practice.  Good Luck

  2. DE for sure. I am a DE and  it's alot more fun than LB IMO

Plus, you have the  perfect body for  a DE

  3. I would stay at DE, you are built like a DE, tall and big. You will need to work on that bench though. I weigh 140 and that is what I bench.

  4. If I were your coach I wouldnt start you at either DE or LB to be honest.  You seem to be more of a safety build.  If you work on your leg strength and sprint time you should be ok.  But at this point I dont think you have the right size or strength to be playing DE LB and you dont have the speed to make up for that.
