Switch is the one to lookout for in the Filly and Mare Sprint despite Turbulent Descent installed as the likely favourite
There are some serious contestants for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and among them is the 2010 runner up of the race 4-year-old filly, Switch.
The daughter of Quiet American, out of Antoniette by Nicholas, Switch was scheduled to be sold at a breeding stock immediately after the Breeders’ Cup, but trainer John Sadler has decided to scratch the filly from the sale and race her as a 5-year-old next
year, much to the fans delight.
The C R K Stables’ Kentucky bred Switch is famous for her second place finish against the top filly Zenyatta in the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret Stakes at Hollywood Park on 2 October, 2010, in which the eventual Horse of the Year conjured up her trademark come
back from behind runs to catch the unsuspecting Switch late to win the race.
Now Switch has gone on to participate in 17 races altogether in her 4-year-old racing career, and apart from her maiden which she broke in her first attempt, she raced in 16 consecutive stakes races and 15 of those were graded stakes races.
The multiple grade 1 winner, Switch, hasn’t finished worse than 3rd in 6 races this year. She went on to win the season opener, the Grade 1 Santa Monica over at seven furlongs at Santa Anita.
On 30 January, 2011, Switch came back from behind to go past Gilded Gem and Sweet August Moon to cover the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 20.70 seconds.
Switch has gone on to compete against the best, and she has never been shy to show what he got against all those top fillies and mares. She wasn’t intimidated by Zenyatta last year and she certainly wasn’t under any pressure when she met the two top rated
fillies in the North America this season, Havre de Grace and Blind Luck.
She ran second against Havre de Grace in the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Stakes over at 1 1/16 miles, and in the very next race she was up against Blind Luck in the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap, where also she turned in a second place finish.
Turbulent Descent might go as the likely favourite for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, but watch out for Switch because the rampant filly is due a big performance.
