Switching Rugby position?

i am a winger in rugby, i am average in height and stubby, average muscles(not ripped) and the size of a scrum half. im only a winger because i am very fast according to my team. i do not like my position. i stay on one side of the field and basically just watch the game. i was thinking on asking my coach if i could play hooker or at least scrum half because i am good at tackling and rucking, and i am very aggresive, but the problem is i cant do much of those at wing. for example, thier outside center is charging at me and i am running at him to pulverize him, but my coach yells at me to stop at watch the opposite wing. i want a position were it is my job to tackle, ruck, and maul basically , because it is my strength.

  1. if you are one of the fastest guys in your team, and your wanting to ruck, maul and tackle then you could try a move to openside as this will give you a perfect opportunity to pulverise backs with your tackling as well as giving you the opportunity to be in the middle of all rucks and mauls and in addition be a heavy hitting ball carrier

  2. If you love tackeling then the best position for you is flanker. you get to do a lot of rucking and whenever there is a maul you'll be in it. you also see a lot of the ball and will be in the thick of everything. i don't think you have the build to be a hooker or prop and you're not tall enough to be a lock. and if you're still put on the wing don't go looking for work and expect the fullback to cover for you cause if the opposition score down you're toutchline you'll be to blame and the only place that will get you is the bench

  3. if you really wanna tackle, ruck and maul, then flanker or no 8 is the position for you. but if you wanna use ur speed more, then 2nd five or centre is good but they do a lot of tackling however, they do not do much ruck and maul

  4. just go looking for work, tell your fullback to cover your position.

  5. Openside Flanker :).

This position requires speed, stamina and tackling which it seems like you have.

There aren't many better feelings than launching off a scrum and pulverising the oppoision fly-half. You need to be quick off the mark though as the ball could be on the wing if your too slow.

You'll get plenty of action as your job is to follow the ball. My coach tells me that he wants to be able to throw a blanket over the ball and catch me and the other back row players inside at any stage of the game.

Another great feeling is being the first to relieve a winger who has just been tackled and clearing out the tackler yourself.

A tough but truely rewarding position that it seems you could handle ;).

  6. 12 is your best call. With center are part of the primary defense and you can use your speed and power to break. You will also need to maul and steel the ball because you will be the only (except maybe a flanker) at the tackle after a scrum. It isn't impossible to adapt to a flanker but if you are set in the ways of a back center will be better.
