Switching birth control pills. Still need backup method?

If i started taking a new birth control pill, Yaz, the day after i ended my other birth control's pack, Lutera, do i still need to use a backup method of birth control?

Just to be on the safe side, use a condom - birth control pills only stop pregnancy, not STD so I would always advise that. shouldn't you wait until your period comes through though before switching? Check with your GP, they should have explained this when they prescribed the new pills.
