Question:

Switching files from Laptop to desktop?

I have been using a laptop for quite a few years now and when it crashed a few months ago I had to save all of my important files on CDs and I went through a WHOLE 50pack of CDs. I got my laptop fixed and have been using it for a few months now..and it seems as if it is about to crash and die again. Is there any way I can transfer my information from my laptop to my desktop here at home instead of saving everything (pictures and files) to discs? Thank you so much!

  1. You can transfer DATA files easily, just network the two machines, share resources and map drives between the two, and then you can drag and drop to your heart's content. Programs, on the other hand can NOT simply be copied. Many windoze applications make extensive use of the registry and unless you can replicate the appropriate registry entries, simple copies of an application will fail. You will have to install application you want on the desktop, but data is simply a drag and drop copy task.
