Question:

Switching from formula to soy / reg milk

Hi all! so my daughter just turned 1 & we've been encorporating about 15 oz of soymilk into her dieT & about 15 oz of Nutramigen formula along with food/snacks

my question is..on her formula its 100 cals for every 5 oz & with the soymilk - its 100 cals for every 8oz

I want to make sure she is still getting enough calories (she seems to like her formula better & drinks more of it) & I just wanted to know if anyone has done 1/2 soymilk & 1/2 reg milk (she isnt allergic to dairy-shes been tested already)

I like the idea of soy better then milk but i just want to make sure the fat/calorie intake is equally sufficient

also about how long should the transition be from formular to soy or reg milk

most people we know that have switched said the first time there baby tried reg milk they never looked back for their formula!!!! but Kate actually prefers her formula!

  1. ooo! I know soy has become reeeally popular in the last few years.

    they put it in everything!

    Lately, there has been a lot of well deserved "bad talk" about soy.

    I would do some research about the negatives of soy...there are  a lot of them! It's really not good for your daughter....(

    Please look for alternatives to soy.


  2. Try substituting one ounce at a time.  So if she usually drinks 6 oz. do 5oz. formula 1 oz regular whole milk (or soy).  Next time do 4oz. formula and 2oz. regular and so on until she is no longer drinking formula.  It should only take a few days.

    Also our pediatrician told us to use Lactaid instead of soy because it has all the nutrients that regular milk has.  Soy is O. K. but it lacks some of the nutrients.  My daughter switched from regular to Lactaid for a few days when she was sick.  She's now back to regular milk.
