Switching itunes library from old broken laptop to new laptop?

i have an old laptop that works ok... until you plug something in to it (iPod, digital camera) once you do that it thinks to hard and shuts itself off. is there a way without making my old laptop shut down to get the songs from my iPod library off of it and onto my new laptop (i know how to find my purchased songs) but what about all the other ones from CDs that i have?

we had to take our old computer to a store and have it put on a hard drive. That would be a good idea to do that right now, because, once the computer stops working it is really hard to get it off, trust me!
