I have a 500 watt at 2 ohms rms mono amp. I currently have 2 crappy sony subs, i get some decent volume out of these.

I am looking at buying a cousins type r sub in a box for fifty bucks. My question is how much volume will I lose by switching from 2 subs, each at 250 watts, to 1 bigger type r at 500 watts?

Both are 12's. thanks all.

  1. you will hear the difference but not much. youll probably end up getting another one because i did that and i was not satisifed with the difference.

  2. you need to be looking at the rms not the max watts not i made that mistake

  3. it will be a better sounding bass (more precise), and depending on the box it may get deeper (lower) but it will be about half as loud because you only have half of the surface area and that has a direct correlation to the amount of bass you will get

  4. well having two 12's is gonna have more surface area which normally means its going to be louder. the type r is a way better quality and will last longer and sound nicer.  but yea those sonys might still sound louder just due to the cone area there

  5. i like 2 over one myself, but a lot of people cando alot of things with one, best thing you can do isask to borrow it from him for a day, and just listen to it. if you dont likeit, dont buy it. good luck

  6. depends the size of the subs. if its two 10's that are 250  compared to a 500 watt 12 ince i would go for the 10' inches, less stress on just one, more volume and clearer bass. wont distort
