Would stores be willing to promotionally hand out a reusable bag to each customers? are they willing to spend the money to hand out the bags or are they more likely to stick to plastic bags? How can the city convince stores to do this?

  1. At the A&P you can purchase re-usable grocery bags for 99 cents.

  2. There are a lot of stores now that sell reusable bags, but still stick to paper and plastic. I think it would be a budget issue just to hand those bags out, because a lot of people go in and buy a lot of groceries at a time.and that's a lot of reusable bags, but I see people who have the reusable bags go in to when they plan on getting small amounts, which is good.

  3. If you come up with a great plan to promote to the stores then they should agree. Show them how much waste is cause by the plastic bags.(Give them facts) Show them that this is a way to make a statement and how they can use "environmentally friendly" in their advertisements.  If anything you can educate their customers.

  4. they will not pay to give out re usable grocery bags. in fact, where I live, they are trying to make it law that you have to purchase bags. in hopes that you will recycle them rather than toss them. Aldi does this already along with other stores.

  5. They already do this in Europe but the customer has to purchase the bags and plastic bags have to be purchased also.Nothing is free there.Shopping cart 50 cents, trip to the restroom 30 cents, plastic bags 10 cents.

  6. Kroger sells bags for about $1, then gives you a 5 cent discount each time you bring it to the checkout counter with groceries.
