Switch’s connections are leaned toward the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint because the distance favours the filly
Pre entered in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic and the Grade 1 $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, 4-year-old filly Switch would be to looking to improve on her second place finish in the 2010 edition of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and
Mare Sprint.
Among the earlier arrivals at Churchill Downs, trainer John Sadler has been personally with the filly to see her progress ahead of the Breeders’ Cup.
John Sadler is also at Churchill Downs to choose between Grade 1 Breeders’ Ladies’ Classic and the Sprint, and he made a statement that six furlongs are a little bit too short for Switch but on the other hand seven eighths is probably her very best distance.
The daughter of Quiet American, out of Antoniette by Nicholas, Switch is coming off a third place finish in the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Club of America run over a distance of six furlongs over the Keeneland’s synthetic surface on 8 October.
Prior to the six furlong sprint, Switch consistently ran over the distance of 1 1/16 miles to 1 1/8 miles in three consecutive races, and only once she ran at about seven furlongs in her season opener the Grade 1 Santa Monica Stakes over dirt at 30 January,
which she managed to win.
The Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint is run over at a distance of seven furlongs and that would actually suit Switch more, it is just the right amount of distance she needs in a big race where the connections want everything in the runners favour.
In a massive field of 13, Turbulent Descent will be the solid favourite to win the race, and then Pomeroys Pistol and Switch figure next on the odd lines.
The caste is predicted to trim down a bit, but there are long shots a plenty in the lineup and anything can happen in a Breeders’ Cup race.
The C R K Stable owned 4-year-old filly Switch, is one of three fillies who are cross entered for the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic, the other two are Champagne d’Oro and Great Hot.
