I am using a eurolines bus, which only stops in Geneva in Switzerland. Could anybody recommend where should I go from there then if I had 2 nights and 2 days to spare? I was hoping to catch a bus or train ride to any nearby town to catch a glimpse of the Alps. What are the prices and available tours from Geneva?

  1. well. when i was in switzerland this summer i went to a place called Lauterbrunnen and it was awesome. this place is sutuated in a steep vally and if you have ever seen the Lord of the rings, Rivindale, that place where the elves are is modeld after lauterbrunnen. so that is what i recomend. there is a train station there for easy acess. hope this helps.

  2. with such limited time, you should stay around the Lake Geneva area.  i would put Lausanne as a definite on your list (and do visit the Olympic Museum).  go to Montreux for the Chateau Chillon, then you can backtrack to Vevey, which is small and very charming.  Glion, a little town above Montreux, is a great place for views.  the train line runs through Geneva, Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux (in that order), single trip probably 1.5hrs.  you could buy a round-trip ticket from Geneva to Montreux, then hop off at Vevey and Lausanne (it's cheaper than buying each segment separately), though it'd be tough to see 3 places in one day.  check for train ticket prices/times at www.sbb.ch/en  Montreux and Vevey, you can see in half to 3/4 of a day, depending on the activities you choose.  Lausanne, i would recommend at least 1 day, because there's lots to see and do.  if you just stand on the banks of Lake Geneva, you'll be able to see Alps that seemingly infinitely stretch across the other side.
