Switzerland versus http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882– Under 21 European Championship semi finals: Extra time review

After ending the normal with the score line at nil all, both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Switzerland-c3016 and Czech Republic took the field in extra time with the hope of finding the winning goal. Both the set of players looked tired and this was clear in the
95th minute as Cerny found himself in space on the right wing but the Czech midfielder decided to play the ball first time for Pekhart. However his pass was a wayward one as it went out of play for a Switzerland goal kick.
It would’ve been better if the Czech youngster had taken the ball forward himself rather than abandoning the responsibility of doing so by playing in his team mate with an ill timed pass. In the 97th minute, Emeghara
raced down the touch line for Switzerland but the young striker was barged off the ball by the Czech http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904. The referee spotted this infringement and duly awarded a free kick to Switzerland. With the match hanging by a thread, Shaqiri stepped up to take
the free kick but his effort was easily gathered in by Tomas Vaclik in the Czech goal.
In the 101st minute, Sommer did exceptionally well in the Swiss goal as the young stopper held onto Cerny’s shot from outside the Swiss penalty area. The shot was deflected en route to goal but Sommer did well to track
the flight of the ball as he gathered it comfortably in the end. Soon after the first half of extra time came to an end and at the start of the second half of extra time, Switzerland had a good chance to score the winning goal when Gavranovic found himself
in space inside the Czech penalty area.
However the Swiss striker was unable to head the ball properly as the chance fizzled out in the end courtesy of some tight marking by the Czech defence. In the 111th minute both the teams made their final changes of
the evening as Switzerland brought on Costanzo in place of Emeghara. On the other hand, Czech Republic opted to replace Milan Cerny with Vaclav Kadlec.
In the 114th minute, six minutes before the end of extra time, Switzerland scored the first goal of the match when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Admir-Mehmedi-c3664 prolifically ended his spectacular run into the Czech Republic penalty area with an incisive
shot which whistled past Vaclik.
Mehmedi was also booked in the aftermath of the goal as he celebrated by taking his shirt off inside the stadium. In the 119th minute, Czech Republic had a wonderful chance to get a late equalizer but the Eastern European
outfit failed do to so as Kadlec’s header was just wide of the Swiss goal. Consequently the match came to an end with the score line at one nil in favour of the Swiss U-21 contingent.  Mehmedi’s extra time strike sealed a place for his national team side in
the final match of the tournament against their Spanish counter parts.
