Switzerland versus http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882– Under 21 European Championship semi finals: First half review (Part 1)
Switzerland played Czech Republic on 22nd June, 2011 at MCH Arena in Demark in their Under 21 European Championship semi finals as both the team took the field of play in attacking fashion. Switzerland opted to use Yann
Sommer as their first choice goal keeper. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-Rossini-c19058 played in central defence.
In the midfield area, Xherdan Shaqiri played on the right wing whilst http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xavier-Hochstrasser-c37063 took up his usual berth on the left wing for the underdogs. Up front, Innocent
Emeghara and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Admir-Mehmedi-c3664 lined up as Switzerland’s two strikers in their 4-4-2 formation.
Before the match kicked off, Czech Republic’s U-21 team were favourites to progress to the final of the tournament by gaining a win over their Swiss counter parts as Tomas Vaclik lined up in goal for them. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ondrej-Mazuch-c28625, Ondrej
Celustka, Marek Suchy and Lukas Vacha made up the Swiss back line whereas http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcel-Gecov-c23512, Milan Cerny and Lukas Marecek completed their five man midfield. Libor Kozak played as Czech Republic’s solitary striker in a 4-5-1 formation.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xherdan-Shaqiri-c37074 showed his worth. Shaqiri drifted inside from his right wing berth to create space for the Swiss full back Koch
to bomb forward. This was Switzerland’s strategy throughout the match as it helped them stretch the Czech http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904. In the 4th minute, Shaqiri was in the thick of the action once again.
This time the Swiss winger skipped past his marker and found himself in space inside the Swiss penalty area. However his ensuing shot was marginally wide of the target as the score line remained at one nil. In the 8th
minute, Frei almost played in his team mate Mehmedi for the Swiss U-21 contingent but the midfielder’s pass to Mehmedi was a bit over hit as it allowed Vaclik to come out and claim the ball from his six yard box.
Soon it became evident that the Czech Republic were not going to take the initiative as their main strategy was to hit Switzerland on the counter attack. This was a brilliant ploy by the young Czech team in theory but in reality
it failed to materialize in the first fifteen minutes of the first half as Czech Republic were unable to support their only striker Kozak in attack which meant that the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 target man was isolated more often than not.
