Hamburger SV are now the latest club to have joined the race to acquire the Swiss teenager, Xherdan Shaqiri, from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079. The winger had an outstanding 2010/11 season with Basel, prompting several European sides to launch a bid for his services. Shaqiri
is already on the radar of other Bundesliga sides like Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and AS Roma have also shown interest in the Swiss international. Furthermore, English Premier League giants, Manchester United are also hot on the 19-year-old’s
trail.
Hamburger head coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 prior to the start of the 2011/12 season. He rates him as one of the emerging young talents and pushed Rothosen officials to
strike a reasonable bid for the winger. He believes that the Swiss could do wonders at Imtech Arena should both parties agree upon a deal.
FC Basel have agreed to sell the player if any acceptable offer comes their way. The officials clearly stated that Shaqiri is worth 8 million Euros and anything less than that might not be even worth considering.
In an interview to a local newspaper, Oenning told, "It is correct that we have shown our interest to Basel and director of sport Frank Arnesen has contacted the club."
Hamburg have stated that they might not be able to meet Basel’s demand but would certainly come up with an attractive offer.
For his part, Shaqiri has expressed delight at being linked with most of the top outfits, and wants to represent any side that plays in the UEFA Champions League.
The youngster is more than likely to switch to AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603, as the Italians have reportedly come up with the best offer, though, it remains undisclosed.
The winger got through to the senior team from Basel’s youth ranks in 2009 and has managed 61 league appearances to date, netting nine goals during the process. The player made his international debut in 2010 and already has 11 caps under his belt. He also
represented his country at the U-17, U-18 and U-21 level.
