Well about a month ago i got braces (fixed appliances) to straighten out my teeth, everythings been fine up till now. I've noticed a swelling of the gums on the back 2 molars, i was quite confused because i brush my teeth 3 times a day for 5 minutes each, until i read on yahoo answers that i should floss aswell. So i got myself a softpick and started flossing, quite alot of blood came out of the 4 teeth on both jaws, i rinsed with mouthwash and now i'm here asking this question as to how long it will be swolen for and is there anything else i can do to help it

Thanks

  1. i had the same problem. i asked my orthodontist about it and she gave me a prescription mouthwash. you use it twice a day, morning and night, and within 2 weeks or so my swelling went down and the bleeding stopped. hope this helps.

  2. u have to floss 2 xs a day morning and night so they swelling and blood could stop....that happened to my brother and he had to wear his braces for like 2 more years...do this forever u have to floss then reduce to 1 time a day..

  3. bleeding will keep occuring for 10 days, after that you shouldnt see anymore bleeding, you will stop gingivitis from occuring and therefore save lots of money, rinse with warm salt water and avoid sweets.
