Question:

Swollen bump behind last molar on left.

The space behind my last molar is swollen and irritating as my top teeth touch it. My wisdom have no come in yet - but it is only one side. I figure another possibility is an infection, however beside normal swelling pain, it does not ache. If anyone could give me some possibilities, I would appreciate it - I am hesitant to go to a dentist right away if it turns out I've just bumped it too hard and the swelling will go down.

  1. It means you ARE GOING TO DIE.

  2. Hello...look my friend, it's never a good idea to ignore abnormal bumps or sores regardless of where they appear on your body...Given your description of the Bump your experiencing, my bet is that you do indeed have a wisdom tooth preparing to make it's presence known.. A trip to your Dentist and an xray will quickly answer that question..Also, the xray will tell the DDS if the tooth coming in is going to make a normal eruption or if instead it will be a problem tooth and maybe attempt to come up under an existing tooth. SO, do yourself a good deed and see your DDS... ASAP...Good luck and I wish you well.

  3. Sounds like you have wisdom teeth active -- sometimes they flare up and then relax without breaking through, and sometimes they grow in.  If you're lucky, you have room for it to just grow in so it won't have to be removed; but if it is too close to the last regular tooth you won't have any choice but to have it taken out.  If it keeps bothering you, do see your dentist.

If you're running a fever or have any other symptoms of infection, don't wait!
