Question:

Swollen knee on horse

My friend's horse that I ride occasionally has started limping on his right fore. This was going on very mildly for 2 weeks, almost at a level where it was unnoticeable for the rider. She gave him a few days off, and it persisted. The knee is a bit warm and swollen.Today, we hosed it with cool water. Obviously we will call a vet if it gets worse or doesn't get better, but what do you all think it is?

He is relatively young, and not worked strenuously.

  1. The horse could have an abscess. If you don't find any sign of an abscess soak it or hose it in cold water and call a vet if there is no improvement.
