Question:

Swollen ovary or something more sinister??

I went to the ob/gyn yesterday for my annual stuff. I told him and his pa that for the last 6-9 months, when I have an o****m my right side hurts, that its more of an ache than actual stabbing pain. Also, sometimes with deep penetration it is borderline painful. Again, not horrific pain, but a fine line between being pleasurable and uncomfortable. It is also suspected from an MRI I had on my back last month that I have a fibroid tumor on my uterus. He said that my ovary on that side (right) could be swollen and I am going back in 4 weeks for a gynecological ultrasound, but for the next 4 weeks I am going to be scared to death. Could it be possibly be the fibroid tumor causing me this discomfort? Could it be an ovarian cyst? I am mortified that its something bad...I just lost a close cousin to cancer a month ago and I suppose that fact is causing me to worry more than normal. Have any of the YA ladies had this type of trouble before? If so, what was the diagnosis and treatment? Thanks. :)

  1. Yes.

The pain I had from an ovarian cyst caused me pain and concern.

They are very easily dealt with.

A fibriod tumor is NOT cancer but is a benign tumor.

Both these conditions you mention cause similar pain, which is why you need the diagnosis.

It sounds like it could be the fibriod that's causing all the pain.

Having it removed will ease this.

Try not to panic. I know it's hard when the big C word is so raw in your memories and emotions.

If your Gyno thought at any point it could be cancer he would have organised a biopsy straight away.
