I see you, usually in the topics where people ask stupid quesitons about wallhangers-

  1. I study and teach Kenjutsu-but not traditional Kenjutsu.

  2. I did the SCA thing for a good while, years ago, when it was closer to sword fighting.

I am a member of Swordplay Alliance, and can teach Rapier and Rapier & Dagger.

  3. I have trained in Kenjutsu Shoden, and am looking to start back again with the sword in the next year or two.

  4. Chinese Bo, Japanese Bo, Nunchakus, Double Nunchakus, Chinese Broad Sword, and very little Japanese Katana and 3 sectional staff.

    James

  5. I don't know if this counts, but we did suburi and ken matching execises with a heavy bokken in our advanced class training in Aikido, as well as training in the use of a Jo. I also studied Kali which pretty much focused on short sword and dagger training to compliment my Aikido training. I don't claim to be an expert, but at the very least, I know my way around a bladed weapon.

  6. Yeah mate i do, sword (straight, short and double) staff, nun chuks and knife throwing

  7. I am a Shinkendo kenshuin (Junior Instructor). Shinkendo is Obata Toshishiro's unified practical Nippon Kenjutsu art based here in Los Angeles with branches worldwide registered to the ISF. We also do Toyama Ryu which has a limited curriculum that has been subsumed into Shinkendo as "Gaiden waza" or borrowed techniques. [See www.shinkendo.com]

  8. I started with Taiji Jian.

I quickly changed when I realized that the techniques were fairly useless for me on the street.

Now my weapon of choice is the walking stick (I carry a cane anyway.) Training with the Jian does not allow you to change your grip to the other end of the weapon or hold both ends for a double handed guard position. With walking sticks and canes the blade alignment is irrelevant.

If a person is going to train in a martial arts weapon, I highly recommend that they consider the walking stick. It is the only weapon that you can openly carry on the street.

A lot of techniques from the late 19th and early 20th Century are all but forgotten these days. A "forgotten" technique is as good as a "new" technique against a person who has never seen it before...

Actually it is BETTER than a new technique because it has already been tested and has been proven to work!

  9. Started MA training in 1967, but did not get to learn weapons until the early 1980's. Weapons training includes:

Bo, Jo, Sai, Tonfa, Yawara, Cane, Tanto, Iaido, Kenjutsu, Eaku.

  10. Kali

  11. Right now I'm working with: Bo, Jo, Screamah, and Numchucks. Yeah, can't spell some of them, but those are my main weapons.

  12. I have training in Iado, Kendo and Kenjitsu. I even competed a few times in forms with Iado.
