Sybille Bammer bounces back against Andrea Hlavackova to advance at Whirlpool Monterrey Open
Austrian Sybille Bammer came back from a set down to beat Czech Andrea Hlavackova with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 score line and advanced at the Whirlpool Abierto Monterrey Championship on Tuesday.
The Czech made a quick in rounds to clinch the first set with a 6-4 score line. Both displayed an excellent game of tennis but Hlavackova outclassed the Austrian by breaking Bammer’s serve in the eight and the last game. She saved
1 of 2 break points and converted 2 out of 4 opportunities to her advantage. She had an amazing 26 first serves as compared to Bammer’s 16 and she won points on 17 of her first serves.  She also won points on 13 of her 28 returns.
Hlavackova lost her track in the second set as she committed 6 double faults to gift away the set. Bammer on the other hand re-set her form and broke the Czech serve in the very first game. Hlavackova with a little spark left was
able to broke back in the sixth game but the Austrian went on rage mode and earned the equalizer by two more breaks and with 6-3 score. She had an acceptable first serves of 13 as opposed to slightly lower i.e. 12 of Hlavackova. She also gained points on 8
of it amazingly.
The 30-years-old Bammer kept on roll with her winning momentum and with her tremendous skills and agility she won the first five games in a row. The Czech tried to penetrate her defences and finally succeeded as she won the next
three proceeding games. She also saved 5 out of 7 break points and converted 1 out of 2 opportunities to her advantage. But it was too late as the Austrian just held her serve in the last game to win the three-set thriller and proved all the critiques wrong.
She had earned points on 16 out of her 25 first serves spectacularly.
Bammer will next be facing either top seeded Serbian Jelena Jankovic or Spanish Lourdes Dominguezlino in the next round. She overpowered the Czech in tough three sets and so she needs to practice more to defeat the defending champion
or any other seeded players later in this event.
World number 107, Bammer hasn’t had much luck so far this season as she was dumped in the first rounds at Sydney, Australian Open and Acapulco. Hlavackova on the other hand is ten ranks above the Austrian and faces a similar luck.
She was ousted in the qualifiers at Brisbane and Sydney and exited in early rounds at the Australian Open and Memphis.
