Sycamore tree question?

Question

Anyone have one in their yard? How fast do they grow? why do they always have so many dead leaves? Which is better a berch tree or a sycamore it seems the beerch, who makes the best shade tree

I think a Sycamore tree is more beautiful. It grows to be a giant tree. It grows pretty fast. The only thing is it bears fruit that can cause a mess. The Birch tree grows slow. Paper birch the trunk tends to flake off, It looks like peeled paper. It all depends on what you prefer. Good Luck

My parents had a sycamore tree but had it removed because of the leaves.  They make a great shade and grow a little faster than an oak.

I have had no experience with a birch tree, might google it and see what you come up with.

I prefer Live Oak and Red Oak.

Sycamore trees grow very fast and they p**p huge leaves and porcupine eggs.  They also p**p branches when they get older.  Birch trees are gorgeous but more of a big bush and very prone to borers and leaf creatures, need lots of water.  Good shade fast growing and little care a plain old maple tree, as in green one.

I have a 80 foot tall Sycamore tree in my yard. The pros: fast growing, dense canopy and wide spread. The cons: soft wooded so you will be picking up twigs and small branches depending upon how much wind you receive. Leaves hang on the tree later than most trees. So you end up raking much more often and later in the year.

The Birch is a nice tree - doesn't get as large as the Sycamore. Less twigs to pick up though. If you are wanting a large shade go with the Sycamore, if no go with a River Birch, Heritage Birch or Dura Heat Birch: http://www.naturehills.com/search.aspx?q...
