Sycerika McMahon and Aisling Cooney flourish in style at the Irish Long Course Championships
Day one of the Irish Long Course Championships got off to a flying start with the astounding performances of Sycerika McMahon and Aisling Cooney in the 50m breast-stroke and 100m back-stroke events in Dublin, on Friday.
In the Women’s 50m breast-stroke final, McMahon picked up the top seed with an outstanding time of 32.74 seconds. Meanwhile, Lisa Comerford wound up second with a distinctive time of 35.60 seconds and Niamh Bryson captured the bronze in 35.63 seconds.
She also took home her second title in the Women’s 200m freestyle meet with a remarkable time of 2:00.79 minutes. McMahon was extremely delighted with her performance in the 50m breast-stroke and 200m freestyle finals.
On the other hand, Melanie Nocher captured the silver medal with a matchless time of 2:01.35 minutes and Niamh O'Sullivan won the bronze in time of 2:03.52 minutes.
Meanwhile, she clinched her third title of the night in the Women’s 200m butterfly final with a winning time of 2:15.82 minutes. Lorna Cummins snared the silver medal in the respective meet with a time of 2:17.75 minutes, whereas, Gillian Gavaghan wound
up third in a time of 2:23.25 minutes.
In the Women’s 100m back-stroke final, Aisling Cooney snatched the gold medal with a fabulous time of 1:01.76 minutes. Awesomely, she beat her previous record of 1:02.24 minutes, set in 2008. Nocher took home the silver title with a time of 1:02.39 minutes
and Chelsey Wilson grabbed the bronze with a 1:04.89 minutes effort.
The Men’s 50m breast-stroke crown was captured by Michael Dawson with the fastest time of 29.54 seconds. Emmet Crowley was placed second with a time of 30.34 seconds, while Nicholas Quinn settled third in a time of 30.58 seconds.
Sean Leahy picked up the top seed in the Men's 200m freestyle with a winning time of 1:53.78 minutes. Curtis Coulter won the silver with a time of 1:55.28 minutes, while Seamus Stacey snared the bronze in 1:55.71 minutes.
In the Men’s 100m back-stroke meet, Karl Burdis clinched the golden crown with a stunning time of 56.50 seconds. Meanwhile, Colm Dowling took the silver with a 57.97 seconds effort and Luke Fitzgibbon snagged the bronze in a time of 1:00.23 minutes.
The Men’s 200m butterfly title was taken over by Niall Wynn with a sterling time of 2:03.57 minutes. Brendan Hyland was placed second in 2:07.91 minutes and Jack Cobain finished third in a time of 2:08.47 minutes.
Last, but not the least, Cooney, Comerford, Emma McShane and India McGlynn took home the Women's 400m freestyle relay title with a winning time of 4:04.57 minutes. Luke Campbell, Jordan Sloan, Michael Doggart and Mark Angus wound up first in the Men’s 400m
freestyle relay final with an intriguing time of 3:37.25 minutes.
