Sydnee Michaels performing well in rookie season
American Sydnee Michaels, who performed well at the Safeway Classic 2012 as she finished seventh, can pose a serious challenge to rivals at the upcoming Kingsmill Championship, set to be staged from September
6-9, at Williamsburg, Virginia, United States.
Michaels, who started her rookie season this year, was brimming with confidence when she teed off the Safeway Classic 2012 just two weeks back. Her game was so perfect that even top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional
Golf Association) stars started to see her as a growing threat.
However, the American star received plenty of appreciation for displaying such a stunning performance in a tournament featuring players like current world number one Yani Tseng, Suzann Pettersen, Paula Creamer,
Mika Miyazato, Michelle Wie and Cristie Kerr of the United States.
Starting the tournament with a solid 65 in the first round, Michaels was among the few players in the field who not only battled rivals with ease, but also troubling weather conditions that saw strong winds
whip through the course intermittently.
She shared her thoughts at the end of the opening round, explaining what has helped her rise to fame in her rookie year, Michaels said that she has always been proud of her family members, as they have been
with her on every step of the way.
She was keen to point out that playing in a tough field is not easy, but she has gained a lot by watching big names play on the course. The young star said that her plan is to win an event in her rookie year.
“I definitely picked a good day to play well. My family's here and my boyfriend's here, so that's nice to play well in front of all of them. It feels great to be on the west coast. I'm a California girl,
so it definitely feels great to be over here,” Michaels said at the end of the first round of Safeway Classic 2012.
She went on to say that the efforts she made on the Symetra Tour months ago are finally paying off, as she is playing the LPGA tournaments with an improved form. “It's really helped me a lot. Playing professional
golf full‑time is a lot different from amateur and junior golf”.
